We are now half way through April, Autism Awareness
month. Most autism advocates and groups
have been trying to take advantage of this timely focus to share with volume
their ideas of autism acceptance, awareness and action. Lynette Louise aka
The Brain Broad is no exception! Though she travels around the world
working in the homes of families struggling to help autistic loved ones all
year round, every
April she also offers her services as a speaker and performer free of charge,
sharing her skills and understanding with professionals and parents and
autistic individuals around the globe.
Her intention is to teach herself out of work. The goal, according
to Lynette, has always been to offer parents and autistic individuals the
answers she fought a lifetime searching for so that she can stay home and enjoy
her own family. "This is how I've run all of my businesses. I know I'm a
success when I can quit." Lynette admits.
This desire to share everything
she knows, the efficacy of play therapy, family dynamics and neurofeedback in
every single home she visits around the globe, led to a fantastic idea. A reality
series, so audiences could follow and see and listen and learn. FIX IT IN FIVE with LYNETTE LOUISE aka THE BRAIN
BROAD is an idea hatched out of Lynette's desire
to share her tools of change with volume!
THE IDEA : Five families, five days, five countries,
five different mental health issues.
By offering her services as a reality show, Lynette will be able
to give families who are willing to be on camera a free five day life changing
therapy marathon. At the same time audiences will be gifted with answers,
entertainment and an exampling of living life with creativity and intention.
Lynette is in touch with her silly side which is useful for teaching kids. She
is also in touch with her dorky side which has an unmatched passion for the
brain, and its disorders. Whether it's depression, dyslexia, ADD, OCD, autism,
Parkinson's etc., she has an analogy and answer that makes change easier, and
even a little bit fun!
During filming, Lynette got a good
head-butt from an autistic teen she was working with and lost a tooth. With
this event (which brings blood and action to the series!) there was a huge
learning for both mom and son. Lynette explains, "You can't walk gingerly.
You have to say I'm going to love you with gusto and we are going to get to the
end of this." Audiences will love FIX
IT IN FIVE with
gusto.
It was important to Lynette
Louise from the very beginning that each of the families chosen be drastically
different, and that they live in different parts of the world. Though each home
will likely be touched by autism, there will also always be other challenges
that the family and Lynette will work together toward solving while embracing--and
sometimes questioning--cultures and society.
It was also very important to
Lynette that her integrity and message never be compromised. Because of this
she was unwilling to sell the show to large networks who immediately began
suggesting changes and edits that would highlight sadness or make the families
who were willingly allowing themselves to be seen and judged by an audience
look bad or inept. This is exactly what Lynette is teaching against, and so
finding a home for FIX IT IN FIVE with
LYNETTE LOUISE aka THE BRAIN BROAD where honesty, answers and kindness
would always be the star was a priority.
The show now has that home! The Autism Channel is not only allowing
Lynette Louise to call the shots and choose the edits, they are honored and
thrilled to have her do so! Their executive
producer of programming had this to say about the show: "Lynette Louise we are
blown away by your production! Everything about it is perfect. We are thinking
of holding it back a short while and promoting the hell out of it. Then
breaking it into segments and releasing one a day. Would you have any problems
with that?"
Exhausted,
excited and broke, Lynette Louise did not have a problem with that! The first
episode aired on April 12, 2013, and is now available for anyone with access to
