The vote for the big beautiful Bill was perfect. Only two Republicans voted against it. The reason can be explained by the taking of data about everyone in the world and it being used to extort vote compliance.

Literally, everyone in the world is tracked by by the US intelligence agencies and that's been going on for at least 20 years. That means there is no privacy. That means if you are a legislator and you have a son or a grandson or a nephew or a cousin who has broken the law, Trump and his leadership can use that information as leverage to force you to vote the way they want.

Or it may be that you've done some questionable moves, tax wise. Or you have a tawdry history that you don't want anybody to know about. Trump and his people have that information and they will threaten to use it against you or the people you care about unless you do as they require.

The result is legislators are not going to stand up to Trump out of integrity. They're going to bow down to him to protect themselves and the people they care about. It's clear that there are no privacy ethics when it comes to Trump and his people. So expect the worst. This is a major threat to democracy and it cannot be easily cured. The data is out there. I;m not sure how to put the Geni into the bottle.

Any ideas on how to heal this gaping wound in democracy's future?

MY idea to solve the wounds of Democracy is simple: convince some "moderate" Republicans to become Democrats or at least Independents that caucus with the Democrats, like Bernie Sanders and Angus King, or simply elect Democrats to replace them.

However they get there doesn't matter. What's clear is that most of the threats, electorally, physically, or against families, come to Republicans - or RINOs, in MAGA's estimation.

The bigger problem, as I see it, is that we may not have elections at all, or they will be over-turned by Trump and his cronies. Trump has made recent statements in that direction and an executive order to criminalize any "errors" in computerized vote counting, in whose opinion, it's strongly implied, will be provided by Trump, not the courts (which he is stacking too). Florida just unilaterally postponed a local election supposedly to match it to even year general national elections to increase turnout. New York City is considering the same thing, but we are putting it to a referendum. See Ferron Cousin's video: tu.be/UKgBN--olBs?si=Nq_RtYDl4t87zi88. This district is not. They expect to be challenged, but also to prevail ultimately in the conservative Supreme Court. Democracy is under strain like never before since the Civil War.

While I expect Trump to do anything and everything to remain in power, resistance is not futile.

While elections have become steadily less effective instruments of the Will of the People my whole life, resistance is not futile.

While voting may seem futile, it is only the candidates who are futile.

If we want better results, better representation or better country, we need to do a better job of recognizing that neither party nor the media represents the general public, labor or the majority.

Public opinion has power. Tyrants understand this even if they won't admit it. It's a weakness and not the only one. We can learn to make our opinion more expensive. Learn more history, economics, science ... anything. Be more skeptical. Become harder to deceive or manipulate.

As humans, our greatest strengths are innovation and cooperation. One of our greatest weaknesses is our predictive ability. We consistently overestimate it - and exaggerate our greatest fears. I'm all for voting, but let's remember that we voted our way into this. It may be harder to vote our way out. I don't want to fight battles our opponents are well-prepared for, but I also don't want to give up.

Whatever one wants to say about nature, it is never at odds with itself. Unlike our civilization. Maybe we can finally let go of things that are not working for us - individually and collectively.

Remember: freedom is not a "benefit" bestowed by the State. It is our true nature. Authoritarians forget that at their peril. That is not a threat. That is a fact of human history. Healing this gaping hole may need to happen from the ground up. We are not powerless.

Here's one way we could "put the genii back in the bottle".

Reverse the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970. aka "Cardboard Box Reforms"

James D'Angelo (Winner 2014 MIT Climate CoLab, ex-NASA scientist) uncovers a crucial flaw in American democracy. Incredibly, the solution - which lays at the heart of all current social concerns (inequality, the recession, political division, government disapproval, Citizens United, civil rights and corruption) - costs under 5 dollars.

James presents a breathtaking new look at congressional transparency and the troubles it has wrought by opening the doors to special interests and the wealthy.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gEz__sMVaY&t=4s

UPDATE (2017)
Since posting this video James has partnered with Harvard Professor of Congress David King and author Brent Ranalli to further investigate this problem of transparency. The results are even more striking and powerful than initially proposed in this video. You can follow their latest work, read their papers and see their latest talks here www.congressionalresearch.org/

"When shall it be said in any country of the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive...when these things can be said, then may that country boast of its constitution and government."~ Thomas Paine"

Clean house. Register all 18 and above to vote. Everyone. Why couldn't an executive order do it? Of course one demanded by the people. The Religious Right in power is the worst of what I see. Clean House and make reparations for 75 years of war crimes of undeclared wars. I so love Economist Michael Hudson's call for a debt Jubilee. Hudson said a few years ago a debt jubilee is only way to avoid a total economic collapse.
