Like a caged animal,
Peering from the inside out,
Everything a shadow,
Something like a dream,
Of what could have been,
But never was.

Plush as a pillow,
Warm and cozy,
Stable,
Sweet,
Cuddly,
And loving,
Someone always there,
Who cares.

A thousand miles apart,
Different worlds,
Separated by,
Lonely,
Alienated,
Disjointed,
Journeys,
In between.

Life a discontinuity,
Never whole,
Nor even complete,
A pattern,
Complexly weaved,
Into a shred,
Of pieces,
A puzzle,
Of incompatible parts!

A life of two,
Into that of one,
Like,
A statue,
With that of,
Two foundations,
Bound,
Attached,
Strong,
Stable,
And unbent by,
The winds of time,
Yet,
Rigid,
Fixed,
And unable,
To move.

A world of dreams,
Dreamt by,
Dreamers,
The potential,
To have freed,
Ourselves,
From,
Fettered shackles,
Interminable cages,
Imprisoned minds,

An opportunity,
To have grown,
To have felt the wind,
At our backs,
The courage,
To have informed,
The world,
That it should,
Go its own way.

Moments in time,
Never again to be,
A list of tomorrows,
Having,
Come and gone,
Joys of the heart,
Replaced by,
Pomp and circumstance,
Things that must get done,
Life sacrificed,
Lost forever,
And a day!

Cages,
That nurture,
And protect us,
From everything,
On the "other side,"
We end up dying,
Half a man,
Bound to the base,
Of one being,
Having to face,
The inevitable fact,
That,
Although life,
May well have been,
Very good,
It was I,
Who chose,
Not to live,
The other.
