I used to be a voting Republican in the 1980s when I was a younger, more-naive military man. The GOP was allegedly the party of balanced budgets. Today's GOP would not be recognizable to the conservative titans of the past such as Ike and William F. Buckley Jr. Our last budget surpluses were Bill Clinton's. They were busted by George W. Bush's tax cuts and Dick Cheney's Iraq war folly. Barack Obama inherited the global financial crisis, yet started cutting annual deficits his second year. They were down to less than $600 billion by 2015. The GOP tax bill has ballooned annual deficits to more than $1 trillion. Senate leader Mitch McConnell is talking about cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to close the gap.
I attended a Beto O'Rourke town hall in March and was inspired by his compassion for the people of Texas. If Beto had not represented El Paso dutifully, we would hear it every day. Instead, the only attacks the GOP have are generic "too liberal" and "Nancy Pelosi" ads. Don't fall for it.
Vote for Texas. Vote for Beto!

A vote for Beto O'Rourke is a vote for all Texans
By JAMES HEYLAND Sep 14, 2018
Don Treshman states that Beto O'Rourke changed his first name to conceal his Irish-American heritage from Latino voters ("Beto O'Rourke is
deceptive, support Ted Cruz," The Daily News, Sept. 12).
If you saw "Late Night with Stephen Colbert" on Sept. 12 you would have seen a picture of Beto about 4 years old wearing a shirt with "Beto" on the front. I don't think at that age he was planning to deceive Latino voters.
When Republicans have no substance or ideas to run on, they attempt to divide us, institute fear and spread lies. Beto is better than this as he seldom mentions Ted Cruz. He is running on issues that matter to all Texans.
He knows those issues by going to all counties in Texas to hold town halls. He has spoken to thousands of Texans of both parties. He has proven he will work with both parties to move legislation into law through his work in Congress.
Go to BetoForTexas.com to see his platform. Each of us can change our current political climate from division, fear, pettiness and lies, to hope, inclusiveness, fairness and justice for everyone by learning the truth and voting with compassion in our heart not fear. Vote Beto.
