When I today think back on this victory of the thought-world of ancient Greek philosophy in the Nicene Creed, this victory appears to me to have been virtually inevitable in light of the power and prestige of the thought-world of ancient Greek philosophy. Like many other people over the centuries, I myself find the thought-world of ancient Greek philosophy attractive.
Nevertheless, I think there's strength in the imagistic thought-world of pre-philosophic thought. For all practical purposes, Crossan has undertaken to explore the possible strengths of the imagistic thought-world of pre-philosophic thought as expressed in various places in the Christian Bible in this important new book. Even though I have set forth certain criticisms of Crossan above, I am actually genuinely pleased to see him undertake the study that he has undertaken in this new book. This is the kind of analysis that needs to be done, and in this book he has gotten the undertaking off to a wonderful start.
