America's involvement in Vietnam continued for four years after Nixon's election. But that war, together with Watergate and Nixon's resignation, created a divide in this country that is still with us today. This divide among the American people has been turned into a gulf by the propaganda of the same reactionary plutocrats who were responsible for Kennedy's death. Starting with our Thirty-fifth President, assassination has become a means to eliminate potential opposition to a return to the virtual oligarchy they enjoyed at the end of the Nineteenth Century.

With the "October Surprises" and the electoral shenanigans (Florida 2000, Ohio 2004) carried out by the GOP since 1963; I am certain that I can say, without fear of serious contradiction, that a fair and democratic election has not elected a Republican President since 1956.

It's the End of the World as We Know It (But I Don't Feel Fine)

Since JFK, we have seen the National Security State grow like kudzu in Georgia in springtime. President Kennedy had said that he intended to break the CIA into "a thousand pieces," no longer capable of overthrowing a foreign leader just because they wanted to do so. We are now seeing the beginnings of a formal fascist national security state, controlled by large business interests, where the democratic will of the people can be overturned in the name of expediency, as demonstrated by the appointment of emergency managers in Detroit and other cities in Michigan. We have also seen the full-throated roar of an out of control government agency (the NSA) making certain that our private conversations aren't private.

We also see a nation where more than one-out of six live in poverty, and almost twice that number live in near poverty. (For those of you who have trouble with arithmetic, that means almost half our nation lives in poverty or near poverty. See my December 29, 2011 OpEdNews article " Let's Sit This One Out " for more on this subject.) We see a nation where there are four applicants for every job, and reactionary Congressmen complain because of the large number of people who have been out of work for more than six months. These self-same Congressmen reduce the amount of money for food stamps and Medicaid while the numbers of working poor rise to ever greater heights, because the minimum wage is thirty percent less--adjusted for inflation--than it was 45 years ago in 1969.

Jim Marrs's 1989 JFK assassination book Crossfire: The Plot That Killed Kennedy , lists more that 150 books in its "selected" bibliography. There has probably been close to that number--if not more--new books written and published in the second quarter century after President John Kennedy's death. His murder fifty years ago sticks in the craw of the American people like a chicken bone, and only the answer to his murder, and the branding of those responsible for his murder with the taint of the words of "traitor" and "magistercide" (killing of a magistrate, i.e., elected leader) will satisfy our deep and abiding need to know.

We now have what I feel is both simple to understand and conclusive evidence that there were multiple assassins in Dallas that Friday afternoon in November, 1963: two photos of two empty shell casings and one live--or dud--round: one from Dallas Police Chief Jesse Curry's private collection, shown in his book on the assassination, JFK Assassination File (1969); the other from a photograph taken of two empty shell casings and one live--or dud--round, photographed at the FBI office in Baltimore, Maryland on November 23, 1963, as well as an inventory list from FBI Agents Siebert, O'Neill, and Drain affirming that photograph. The third empty cartridge case appeared--as if by magic--when the FBI could not shake James Tague's story about a stray bullet striking the concrete curb, and a fragment of that bullet striking his cheek. The conspirator's suddenly needed an extra shell casing in the "sniper's nest" in the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) to account for Tague's injury, and prove Oswald's sole guilt.. As I stated earlier, a member of the Dallas Police Department claimed to have pocketed the third empty cartridge case the day of the assassination. The FBI, with conspirators Hoover and Tolson in charge, accepted this piece of "discovered" evidence, and presented it to the Warren Commission, ignoring all of the questions about a proper chain of custody for the third empty shell casing, forging a new inventory sheet that said that there were three empty cartridge cases, and otherwise doing everything in their power to cover-up the conspiracy against JFK. The third empty cartridge case, with it's questionable lineage, and unbelievable origin, is one that any savvy defense attorney would have made a competent court toss out, as well as use it to question the chain of custody for anything found in the TSBD sniper's nest.

If only two shots were fired from the TSBD sniper's nest, and the first one missed, the second round can only be the one that either: 1) hit the President in the back; 2) hit Governor Connally in the back; 3) performed the "Dance of the Magic Bullet," going through both the President and Governor Connally; 4) or hit the President in the head. The second bullet cannot have done all of these actions. And if it cannot have performed all of these actions, it must mean, QED, there was more than one assassin, and there was a conspiracy to murder the Thirty-fifth President of the United States, John F. Kennedy.

We also have the infamous sixth photograph taken that afternoon by AP photographer James W. "Ike" Altgens, which shows both Lee Harvey Oswald and Billy Lovelady standing at the entrance to the TSBD, wearing the clothing they claimed to be wearing that day--Oswald a brown shirt and white undershirt ( as Oswald stated in his interrogation by Dallas Detective Captain Fritz , confirmed in the evidence list given to the Warren Commission, see above), and Lovelady in a red and white-striped short-sleeve shirt, shielding his eyes from the noonday sun with both hands. This occurs as the President reacts to the first shot (or a bullet fragment) that hit him in the throat. The bullet or bullet fragment that hit JFK in the throat, in all probability, was the one that created the bullet hole just to the right of the rear-view mirror (from our perspective) in the Presidential Limousine's windshield. (There is a giant high-resolution copy of the Altgens 6 photo at willyloman.wordpress.com , which shows Oswald, Lovelady, and co-worker Billy Reilly at the front entrance of the TSBD; as well as a colorized video of the Altgens 6 photo on You Tube , that shows the bullet hole in the windshield to great advantage, next to the rear-view mirror, as well as Oswald in his brown shirt .) This cements my argument for multiple assassins, and thus, a conspiracy. It was information of which I was unaware when I wrote the first draft of this article in mid-November, because the article where I found this information had not even been written yet .

We also have tacit admission in a letter by then Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), John McCone, to James Rowley, Chief of the Secret Service, that Lee Harvey Oswald was trained by them, through the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), to be an intelligence operative in the late 1950's. We also have a request by McCone to not to make this information available to the Warren Commission unless specifically asked, which constitutes obstruction of justice. The fact that two of the CIA's founders, Allen Dulles and John McCloy, were members of the Warren Commission, insured that question would never be asked by the Commission. This demonstrates complicity of the highest order in our intelligence and law enforcement agencies to hide the real truth of President Kennedy's murder from us.

The assassination of President Kennedy seemed to usher in a period of murder as a means to a political end in this country that did not end--if it did--until the failed attempt against President Ronald Reagan in 1981. Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., Robert F. Kennedy, George Wallace, Martha Hunt (E. Howard Hunt's wife), Gerald Ford (twice!), John Lennon, and Ronald Reagan round out the list of most famous victims or near-victims. But I would add Congressman Hale Boggs (one of the members of the Warren Commission), and Edward Kennedy to that list, because I believe that there was far more to Chappaquiddick than Ted Kennedy driving off of a bridge, and Congressman Boggs was threatening Congressional hearings on John and Robert Kennedy's assassinations, as well as that of Martin Luther King, Jr., when the plane he was on mysteriously crashed in the Alaska wilderness. Neither Boggs nor the aircraft were ever found.

Nor am I certain that the attempt on President Reagan was the end of this Murder Inc., operating under the auspices of our government and its plutocratic masters. I would open the deaths of JFK's son, John, Jr. and Senator Paul Wellstone, as possible additions to that list. If you have ever read John Perkin's Confessions of an Economic Hitman (2004), you know that plane crashes are a great way to get rid of your enemies. The final word on all of these deaths has not been written yet, and may not be written in my lifetime.

President Kennedy was, I believe, becoming a man who put peace ahead of war, principle ahead of money and power, and love--in Erich Fromm's biophilic sense of that word--ahead of hate. His death left warmongers, haters, and lovers of expediency in charge. That result has this nation he loved on the edge of the abyss that has swallowed every other great empire in history. I believe that we still have time to reverse course, denounce the self-aggrandizement of empire, and return this nation to the simple virtues of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Lincoln that made our nation great, but that time is running short. As we note the fiftieth anniversary of JFK's murder, let us pledge ourselves to take up and continue his work of universal peace and prosperity for the people and the country he loved.
