That higher order of consciousness is extremely important. It's like seeing the Earth from several hundred miles in space. From there, you can understand our wholeness while also understanding we are that wholeness in a part.
It is towards this understanding of wholeness that we need to evolve. Perhaps the major teaching immanent in the findings of physics in relation to ancient teaching is that we are indeed united even in our oppositions. Thus, perhaps if we truly bit off the fig leaves covering our most sacred parts, we can see ourselves in each other instead of seeing warring factions? Perhaps the male can see the female in himself and vice versa. And, perhaps, the dogmatic Christian can unite with the dogmatic Muslim and the scientist can unite with the storytellers that speak to the Gods and Goddesses of this wonderful universe.
Perhaps then, Jerusalem (Place of Peace) will cease to be a war ravaged city and live up to its name? It is said in Mahayana Buddhism that a Saint cannot and will not enter into enlightenment until all beings go before him. This could be more than just a matter of a Saint being a kindly person. Instead, it could be just that the Saint has the wonderful fortune of knowing the ultimate unity in this universe of ours. In other words, in a world of unity, he cannot enter Nirvana until all others proceed before him. Perhaps this "saintliness" of "we're all in this together" can be the condition of the New Humanity suckling the breast of Peace?
