It is here that I draw my first edge, because it is only by committing to raw data that you can achieve the critical differentiation. You must break your addiction to manufactured data and dedicate your awareness to pure observation of raw data. Here is where you establish the observer and the observed, creating the dynamic system that allows motion to begin in a significant new dimension.
This can get suddenly scary, because you are finally at the point where you must commit- Truth or Illusion? This is a new existence, a natural reorganization of operating system architecture. I shed tears that day; I was leaving behind thought. The Mysterious Pass is a pinhole; you can not pass through until you dedicate yourself and strip completely to pure observation of raw data.
As you practice, flashing back and forth, you begin to grasp the significance, and why some people call it waking-up. It is as if you come into existence when you drop in, recognizing in that instant that you had not existed a moment before, the pure observer has now been properly identified, and congratulations, YOU exist in a big new way. Hold on to it for as long as you can, reaching and grabbing on to reality with your sense of touch and holding on, swearing you are going to ride this one to the end of time.
Then you do it again. And you charge that hill, sweating blood, going up, getting stronger, lasting longer, reaching deeper, strengthening and deepening your awareness while witnessing the most astonishing stream of data. The trick here is to remain focused on the wave you are riding or you will be sucked into nonexistence, the black hole of unconsciousness, from where you can do NOTHING.
It requires constant effort. Use your gathering momentum by directing it back into work, and you create a feedback loop. Weird stuff happens as new data begins "appearing;" let it go, or you'll spin into a fantasyland manufacturing exotic scenarios, and reacquire addiction to the holodeck. Insanity! Push on,don't dwell. You can still get sucked back out the portal and fall sound asleep to have very disturbing dreams.
I felt a break point, like I had crested a ridge, broken out of the event horizon. I noticed that more events began waking me up, that I spent shorter periods away. I was firmly committed to this new existence, and liking it better all the time, beginning to grasp the incredible advantage I now possessed. I had been reading "The Fourth Way", by P.D. Ouspensky, and found that both the density and topic of the book continually reminded me to wake up. I was stronger by this time, and one moment realized I could read and still remain awake. The pattern sparked and -
Woooooooosh! Out into an infinite sea...
I've ridden some great expansion rushes, but this is the one where the roof blows off, and the sky is no longer the limit. I had kicked down the control room door; I was reaching for the dials and levers. I had gained super user access and there was magic in the instruction set. It was a whole new ballgame. I closed the loop and out came gushing the laws of motion --
When effort meets need, it creates motion.
When correct effort meets true need, it creates profitable motion.
And away I went, flashing through life, grasping everything I had been trying to do and why I had been trying to do it; why it had worked and how I had known it would. I could see through everything and everybody. I could see them suffocating in the cages they had constructed around themselves, the cause and effect of data starvation. But not me. Not any more. Free at last...
I WAS AWAKE! I sucked down air.
I have to wake EVERYBODY up! Pause.
Why weren't they already awake? Why hadn't I known this was possible?
I knew there was a time limit, that the clarity would bleed. I continued working on motion, trying to grasp the mechanism that would allow me to interface with whatever it was that was causing the strange special effects...
"Had a powerful experience just now, like the body is starting to come on-line. I was outside, eyes closed, tracing a line down each leg from the inside. The line was sort of lighting up, gold light, but I was busy with touch, so I just watched it follow the feel down my legs to my toes, then a BURST of golden light EXPLODED through me. Wow, like being a firecracker..."
I had all the weirdness I needed to assure me I had no idea how reality worked, and I'm a guy who likes to know these things. I was afraid that the guard was about to show up and stuff me back into that cramped little bottle before I could solidify and start popping corks. This became a very dark hole. I was certain I was being observed. They were waiting to see which way I was going to jump.
I was getting stronger, carving the perfect line. But I was torn between holding my place and getting out of there as fast as I could. There was a night when I felt it swell up below me, when I loved everybody and everything, and a wave beckoned so powerfully that I knew if I didn't resist it would lift me up and carry me to where this was all going.
I stood in the darkness with a pack on my back and my wizard's staff in my right hand, wavering between walking into the wilderness and vanishing into insanity, or holding my ground. I was shaking, but didn't move, and then it was gone and I knew it wouldn't be back, and I wondered if I had failed some final test. I was immensely relieved.
I left my tent somewhere in here, but not The Mountain. I was staying at "the cabin" with some people I knew, trying to explain to them what I had discovered, how incredibly significant it was. I even found myself shouting- "Wake Up! You're all asleep!" They found this unconvincing, and began to become annoyed. I was quickly coming to realize that this might be more difficult than first imagined.
