This proposal deceives people into believing that when FairTax is adopted, their paychecks will go up, their household costs will go down, their paperwork burden will evaporate, and they will receive a government check every month for life. It does not tell them the significant costs and risks that such a system will impose on them.
And FairTax imposes a costly, time-consuming, and resource-intensive administrative burden on the states at a time when neither the states nor their citizens can afford it.
From a distance, FairTax looks like a program that's too good to be true. When you look closely, you can see why your parents were right.
