In my opinion, Team Clinton was unsure about Comey's final decision and felt it was imperative that Bill Clinton give Lynch the word that it would be an extremely bad career move on her part to knock Wall Street's chosen candidate out of the contest.
JB: Was Lynch caught between a rock and a hard place? What about Hillary's statement about keeping Lynch on in her administration? Was that my imagination or was that another example of her absolute tone-deafness?
MC: So much of what goes on lately seems like a dreamscape, an unreal world where the ridiculous and obscene are the rule rather than the exception. Clinton's implication that Lynch may stay is proof that Bill Clinton strong-armed Lynch in their impromptu chat about domestic life.
JB: How kosher was this decision not to prosecute HRC in terms of past actions? People have been prosecuted and sentenced for less severe security breaches.
MC: The decision stinks to high heaven. It is a disgrace. The decision makes clear that there are two sets of laws - those for the "little people" and those for the power elite and their top agents, like the Clintons.
General David Petraeus had to do a plea bargain to misdemeanor charges of violating national security for his inappropriate sharing of information with his girlfriend. Former CIA Director John Deutch had to make a similar plea agreement for taking national security information to his home after he retired and housing it on an insecure PC. There are whistleblowers in jail for revealing classified information in the service of their country. Yet Hillary Clinton gets a pass on any legal consequences for actions that are certainly much worse than those of Petraeus and Deutch and probably worse than many whistle blowers convicted during Obama's reign.
JB: True. So, in the final analysis, how meaningful were Comey's strong words?
MC: Comey split the baby to preserve the FBI and his position. He withheld an indictment for Clinton, a huge benefit to her. At the same time, his sharp words provided the Republican's with a potent issue to use again and again. From a purely objective standpoint, his actions were artful.
