Iran is a different story than Iraq as its Hezbollah has committed terrorist attacks against US. During the years prior to its official founding, Hezbollah was held responsible or partially responsible for several attacks on Western (mostly American) targets; the most notable of which were the April 1983 U.S. Embassy bombing in which 63 people were killed and the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing in which 241 American military personnel were killed.
Maybe Bush wanted an easy win to contrast to his inability to "capture bin laden dead or alive" so he picked a war with a pushover, Iraq. He also wanted a permanent base in the Middle East to be near the oil and ready to strike on any foe there-including Iran. That is how PNAC planned it, and W has, unwittingly or not, followed their diagrams.
W has not always been consistent with his GWOT vow of preemptive wars against "those are against us" because he did nothing to retaliate against the Cole bombing. On January 25, 2001 Tenet briefed big bro 43 on the Cole investigation and the written briefing stated for the top officials in W's administration that the "preliminary judgment" that al Qaeda was responsible for it. Rice has said that the decision not to respond militarily to the Cole bombing was W's. She didn't want to look asleep at the switch but she offered up W as she said he "made clear to us that he did not want to respond to al Qaeda one attack at a time. He told me he was 'tired of swatting flies.'"
There is always the last lie to deal with when W is involved. He's screwing with our boys and girls.
The article "12,000 more Guard may go to Iraq" at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17971410/ explains W is lying to us again as "I think this was all concealed until we got through the election," said retired Army Gen. Barry McCaffrey, a military analyst for NBC News. "There's no way to sustain the current rate of deployments without calling up probably nine National Guard brigades in the coming year for involuntary second tours."
W is putting our troops in harm's way without giving them proper training as "Three Army combat brigades have just been ordered back into Iraq less than a year after they left, and two brigades that were headed for Iraq were unable to take their customary four weeks of desert training at Fort Irwin, Calif. Defense officials said the quick turnaround could hurt overall readiness by leaving those troops unprepared for other missions. "When you only have one year or less between deployments, instead of the two that you would like to have, you then do not train to what we call full spectrum," said Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."
Not giving them adequate time between deployments makes them more susceptible to emotional and physical illnesses.
