We already know that Berman is a lobbyist for some of the shadiest industries in the country.
Add this: Berman is a former labor management attorney. Sounds docile, doesn't it?
Forget it. Labor management attorneys specialize in "union avoidance strategies." In other words: Union busting. Intimidation. Scare tactics. Everything short of outright extortion, bribery, and torture. You want thugs? Hire a labor management attorney, because these people eat, sleep and breath brass knuckles, no-holds-barred, terrorization.
"You want to keep your job? You want to feed your 11-year-old son? We have his picture right here. We know where he goes to school. You even think about unionizing and you can forget it. You'll lose everything. For what? They'll never raise your salary. You'll pay them."
This is the system we live in. The National Labor Relations Board is sneered at by union workers as the No Labor Rights Board. In fact, the Littler labor law firm, a veritable German Shepherd for corporate executives boasts that its legal team is "comprised of over 150 attorneys, many of whom began their legal careers at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)."
Isn't that nice? A bunch of anti-union zealots mediating labor disputes between management and unions?
Well, I've made up my mind. I guess Joe six pack might find Berman's populist appeal attractive. Joe and Berman have so much in common. They're fighting in the trenches together. It's them against the wacko left unions.
Oh, wait. Joe can't afford health care for himself or his kids. Berman has the Rolls Royce of health care plans, but no matter, Joe won't take it too hard; after all, it's still them against the unions, right Joe? Those damn unions.
Oh, there's just one other thing. Joe lost his pension when his company folded and filed for bankruptcy. Twenty years down the drain. Berman will live out his life in Tahiti or his own private island somewhere in the Pacific. No problem, says Joe, hey at least we're on the right side in this battle against those evil unions.
Maybe one other difference. Berman makes more in two weeks then Joe makes all year long. They work the same hours. Well Joe, tough luck, but don't forget who your real friend is.
