Changes Coming?
This is a fluid list and while many States have been slow to take advantage of a relaxing landscape, more options should be added to the roster through 2020 and beyond. One such example is West Virginia which effectively legalized online poker in 2019 but has yet to go live with its available platforms.
In other states, sports betting has become more widely available in the wake of the 2018 US Supreme Court ruling which overturned the earlier PASPA laws. Online sportsbooks have reached into more states and while the legislature regarding poker has been more restrictive, casino operators are slowly starting to follow suit.
In various States across the country, gaming companies and other organizations are also starting to lobby representatives with a view to encouraging them to overturn strict rulings. In the future, while it's unlikely that all States in the US will capitulate to this pressure, it's perfectly plausible that more of the 50 local authorities will open up their doors to online poker.
In the meantime, this is a small list but it's starting to grow and, in the months and years that lie ahead, the online poker playing community in the US will start to build alongside it.
