Daroff, a former Republican operative, said he believes a lot of the issues the Jewish community will be touting will be ones in which both parties can come together.
“Aging and social services can bring people together to find solutions to issues that are going to be intractable,” he said. “I think there’s going to be a great deal of pressure on all of the parties to show that they are able to effectively legislate in the new environment.”
A lot will depend on what happens in the Senate, and whether it turns over to the Democrats or stays Republican. written by fontleroy since 1 day 14 hours 6 minutes
This was my response, and then the comments began flowing:
#2 After reading the above comment - I’m almost speechless! I don’t see other comments, as anything said will likely be branded as anti-Semite, although criticism toward our lawmakers being subservient to Jewish issues isn’t necessarily anti–Semite at all, but is just reality. In many of my posts, I have supported the Jewish people but am definitely against AIPAC and Zionism and believe when our support is bought rather than earned, it’s a problem. The thought of Nancy Pelosi being the Speaker of the House again is enough to make a maggot gag, and Hoyer is no better. If we don’t impeach Bush, the next President will inherit powers that are in direct violation with our constitution - so impeachment shouldn’t be a matter of prerogative, but is as simple as Congress upholding their oaths to defend the constitution of the United States. When high crimes and misdemeanors have been perpetrated against the American people and the global community, it is their duty to impeach, and any argument that disagrees with that demonstrates that people don’t understand the constitution and the rule of law. Selective prosecution of the law undermines everything that our constitution embodies - and that’s what the Democratic Leadership is doing. We are either a nation of laws, or a nation that looks the other way when it gets in the way of the powerful lobbies and special interest groups that seem to be guiding Congressional decisions rather than the rule of law.
Pelosi, Hoyer, and Conyers are defying their constitutional obligations and are being obstructionists, which is in effect being Bush enablers. Money and influence are guiding their decisions, not our law, and it’s time that the American people wake-up and understand that the Democratic Leadership is almost as corrupt as the Bush White House. Just because they put a softer tone on their obvious subservience to Israeli interests doesn’t make them any better than Bush - and Pelosi had no right to “take impeachment off the table.” That alone should be enough for anyone to defeat Pelosi when she comes up for re-election, but for that to happen, there has to be a viable challenger come forth…
I see nothing wrong with supporting Israel as long as they are following “The Road-map to Peace”, but blind support whether they are right or wrong makes no sense at all. Based on the article you quoted above, it appears to me that Congress is being subservient to Jewish interests rather than to the majority of the American people, and to me, that’s what democracy is all about; the will of the majority as opposed to the will of the few “elitists” that seem to believe their opinions and actions somehow supersede the general beliefs of the country as a whole. I can see we have a major problem, but at this point in time, I’ll admit that I don’t have a clue as to how it can be rectified. After that, one of the most revealing comments was made, and if it’s true, which research seems to substantiate, we may have little hope of staving off a war with Iran:
#4 Last week, during the AIPAC pow-wow, a former Israeli defense minister, to loud applause, boasted that if the U.S. didn’t attack Iran by next Spring Israel would. The entire conference was one big subdue the neighboring Arabs and bomb the Iranians hate fest. It should be of no small concern that this neoconservative den of vipers has so many Democratic allies charing powerful foreign affairs and national security committees and that presidents and presidential candidates dare not fail to pay homage before it and vow fealty to Israeli foreign policy. There are more comments on BuzzFlash in regard this issue, and they are definitely germane to the issue of why our Congress refuses to support Dennis Kucinich’s Articles of Impeachment, now co-sponsored by Robert Wexler. (Make sure and visit WexlerWantsHearings.com.) It’s also important to understand what Zionism actually is, and the best comparison I can make is comparing them to America’s Neo-conservatives. Even in Israel, Zionism is opposed, as is Neo-conservatism in our own country. If I’m anti-Semite, then you’d have to apply that tag to countless Israelites as well:
Zionism should not be equated with Judaism. The contemptible treatment of the Palestinians by the Israeli government is supported and approved of by most Israeli Jews but not by all Jews. There are some Jews who are totally opposed to Zionism and to Israel’s policies in the occupied territories of the West Bank. Here are three websites which express this position:
The Great Gulf Between Zionism and Judaism
Zionism is … racist, it is nationalist, and it is Biblically inspired (rather than spiritually inspired). Being a fundamentalist movement, Zionism is not categorically different from Nazism. Only when we understand Zionism in its nationalist and racist context will we begin to comprehend the depth of its atrocities. — Gilad Atzmon: Not In My Name: An Analysis of Jewish Righteousness MUCH MORE
All of the above brings forth a burning question that we must ask ourselves and present to the public; Is our so-called “Democratic Congress” voting the will of the American people, or is it voting for AIPAC and other special interest groups? As noted in my last article, polls are demonstrating that the American people favor impeachment of Bush and Cheney, but our Congress refuses to honor the will of the people. If they aren’t taking special interest money or being unduly influenced by AIPAC, then why is Israel’s voice more important than that of the American people? It’s obvious that the Democrats refuse to impeach Bush and Cheney because AIPAC and Zionists favor bombing Iran, and then, after the election, the Democrats can blame it all on Bush, while they effectively supported him by blocking impeachment hearings!
