The 45 million Americans now living below the poverty line.
The 20% or 25 million people in this country that are unemployed, underemployed or who have just given up on finding any kind of employment.
Those young Americans who graduate from college with student loans of up to $75,000 and more, and then can't find jobs; who, collectively, are burdened with a debt of over $1 trillion. That's a national disgrace; what other industrialized nation would let that happen to its younger generation as it prepares to make meaningful contributions to society?
These are the living victims of the huge inequality of wealth in America which, shamefully, has the highest inequality of wealth in the industrialized world; where the top 20 percent of Americans now hold over 80% of the wealth. How can this be happening in this country that often boasts of being the "greatest nation in the world", with the most powerful military force, and speaks of American exceptionalism?"
What is going to happen to this movement that has now lasted almost two months? Will thousands of Americans continue to fill the streets and motivate and energize yet more of their fellow citizens to join them? Will this movement expand onto the campuses of our colleges and universities that could materially swell its ranks? Will the onset of winter put an end to it or will the demonstrators come up with unique ways to keep it going?
Does anyone really think that those at the top are going to willingly change their ways in order to make things better for this country and all Americans? Don't hold your breath because they won't. You can bet the Wall Street banksters will continue to use ever means at their disposal to fleece the American public and that the Corporatist Congress will do nothing to stop them.
Corporations will continue to employ cheap overseas labor and eliminate the jobs of American workers. They will use every known strategy to avoid paying their fair share of taxes and they will continue to pump tainted money into the Congress to control the legislative process.
This People's Revolution is a great start, it is a brilliant opportunity to address a problem that is severely dividing this nation and tearing at the moral fabric of this society. A strong, vibrant nation calls for participation by all elements of its society to share the work that must be done and then to share in the wealth that this combined effort creates.
