But here's the real deal: the really crazy, really insane part. Those are Republicans. From the apex of the party's leadership all the way to the bottom of the barrel GOP voters: cruel, crazed nuts, and certifiably so.
Nonetheless, there are millions and millions and millions of Americans, Democrats and independents, who ostensibly know their associates and relatives vote GOP and who thereby inhabit some desperate, dangerous fringe of a galaxy far, far away, and yet cling to the association on the premise it's "just their opinion, and they're entitled to it."
Sure they are. And that's a good thing, it's one of this country's most profound and basic principles. But what does it say about those who think of their Hannibal Lecter-leaning friends and relatives along the lines, "well, it's just their preference for fava beans, they're entitled to their tastes; I have mine and they have theirs"?
As for me, I want to know where someone stands before I permit myself to sit down next to them. But then, that's just me and my insanity, what a crazy place.
