Democratic candidates running for various offices and the Senate, in particular, would do well to distance themselves from President Obama and run by advancing their own positions and ideas. Mr. Obama has managed to alienate many of his staunchest supporters by his many questionable decisions and actions that do not match their beliefs. He has hurt his party to a significant degree. His presence could certainly be a liability, especially in certain areas of the country, and that must be avoided.
What candidates should do, however, as detailed in this article, is to see if they can enlist Sen. Elizabeth Warren to aid in their campaigns. She represents the new kind of populist that has the ethical and moral principles that immediately connect with the many Americans who have become so badly frustrated and disillusioned with both parties.
Not only do the Democrats have to wake up and spring into action to make their case to the American people but the people themselves need to wake up to the facts of life. Without a doubt the Democrats are often too weak, give in too much and often refuse to fight for what's right to the extent that they should. They are far from perfect but they are not destructionists.
The people better wake up soon and come to the realization that problems in this country are not being solved, nothing of importance is getting done, this country is badly regressing, it can't create jobs, and it's going nowhere. They need to open their eyes and realize that the agendas of the GOP and the vast majority of the American people are diametrically opposed.
If the Democrats showed some real political courage, put on the gloves, laid down the gauntlet and took the fight to the Republicans many of those who have rejected them in recent years, doubtful Democrats, progressives and independents, very likely would support them again.
One way or another, no matter what it takes, no matter how difficult it may be, these obstructionists who are tearing this country apart must be driven out of this Congress; and so it follows that the Democrats must launch a massive grass roots movement to do just that. Nothing is more important than voter turnout. It's time for action, it's time for mobilization; not when Democrats might find the time, not at some later date, but Right Here, Right Now!
