Paper Towels
This is not as big a deal as the above items but the paper towel rolls in supermarkets here are about three to four inches shorter. They use less with a single sheet. That costs less to make and uses up less energy making them. I'm sure there are scores of other products that could be re-designed to use less energy in the production and sourcing of materials. Regular contributor Katie Singer has pointed out that the cost of producing the digital technologies are enormous compared to the savings we achieve using them.
I've only been in Brazil a few weeks but in that short time it's become clear to me that Americans could massively reduce their energy use and consumption if we followed some of the examples set by Brazilians and other nations.
