Was Jeremiah Wright influenced by the events of that night, in August of 1955?
Did Jeremaih Wright ever live is a world where to be a black man was dangerous?
I grew up in that world too.
I remember Emmet Till.
I may be a white-bread grandmother but I still remember my father taking our housekeeper home certain nights of the month because the KKK was meeting at the park at the end of our street. Mrs. Gardiner was afraid to stand at the bus stop for fear the men in sheets would molest her and the POLICE would do nothing to help her.
So let me get this straight
A black man doesn't just talk to a white woman, he beats her in a highly competitive primary season .
Then the press tars and feathers him while completely ignoring his right to freedom of speech and association,.
They hammer instead on the hysteria generated by "black men are dangerous because they might be angry about being treated unfairly."
That man must be made to repudiate any feelings that he might have of injustice or that the US government may not have always acted truthfully or fairly. AND he cannot be associated with anyone who might have lived a life scarred by fear of an unjust government, a government blind tothe protection of the poor or minorities.
I may be right or I may be wrong but I have the right to say it. Reverend Jeremiah Wright has the right to speak no matter how unpopular his opinion. And Barack Obama has every right to be in that church without apology.
Not because I say so.
Because the supreme law our land says so.
And no gaggle of talking heads has the right to tell me differently.
