The female archetype is about nurturing. The Democratic politicans' framing guru, cognitive theorist, George Lakoff, describes the left wing "Nurturing parent vs. the right wing Strict Parent models to explain a lot of the behaviors we see. Though he told me he doesn't agree with me, I see a great deal of overlap between the masculine feminine archetypes and the nurturing vs. strict parent models he describes.

We know that very conservative right wingers tend to be males (three males to every female very conservative,) that they tend to be betweem 30 and 70, twice as likely to be living in small town or rural areas. They go to church MORE than once a week and 62% of Republicans and 79% of people who describe themselves as very conservative are Born Agains.

It's not hard to picture some self-righteously know-it-all, white, Protestant, born again 40 or 50 or 60 year old NRA member hunter, couch potato sports fanatic who's kept his wife home having babies as the number one problem for the Democratic party, greens, liberals and progressives. He takes his bible straight, like his whiskey. He goes to church every Sunday and his wife goes even more often, because they're members of a megachurch, where the social life evolves around the ministry of their politically savvy right wing minister.

Remarkably, our People's Poll found that only 14% of Republicans describe themselves as very conservative. Yet the beliefs and issues they espouse seem to drive the Republican party.

On the other hand, our poll shows that 62% of Democrats describe themselves as liberal or progressive, yet they do not seem to have their beliefs and issue positions represented. There's something wrong when the national leaders of the Democratic party chose men who look more like Republicans to designate as the candidates they get behind, with millions of dollars and high powered endorsements, as we've seen happen repeatedly.

Let's go back to that 14% of the Republicans who are VERY conservative. That means that the other 86% are not so far gone. The right wingers who are sniping at Roe v. Wade have been taking a nibble-away approach, intending to gradually erode the protections and rights accorded women to control their own bodies. Why can't we on the left take the same approach to the values and beliefs of the right wing. Why can't we gradually build the image of the macho, woman controlling, hyper macho male as a joke, as a laughable, pathetic, needy, insecure guy who is afraid to express feelings, afraid to reach out for help, too selfish and immature to be nurturing, too self-centered to express compassion for others, too narrow-minded to see how people of other faiths deserve respect.... because that's already the truth?

Why can't we develop and elucidate a set of values that we present as OUR values, that are positive and healthy and wholesome, that contrast to the "values" those on the right self-righteously proclaim to be the ONLY good values? There are plenty of registered Republicans, particularly the women, who are ready to embrace such an alternative that is based upon nurturing, positive emotions, community and connection rather than money, power, ownership of material things, control, fear and blind obedience that right wingers follow.

We are in a war. I am a man, yet I feel that, as a person who rejects right wing values and embraces both masculine and feminine archetypal values, in balance, my values, my way of living is also under attack and endangered by the extremist, corrupt dishonest actions and behaviors of the right wing. We-- both men who are man enough to also embrace feminine archetypal values and women who these values come naturally to must work to awaken the other men and women in this world to help them discover that the answer is balance, not conquest, integration of both masculine and feminine archetypes, and that anything else leads to disfunction, imbalance and the kinds of conflicts which afflict our world.
