With this testimony, General Petraeus joins the ranks of other honorable men, like Colin Powell, who have forfeited their honor by supporting the Bush agenda--rather than standing up for what is best for the troops, American security and world peace. General Petraeus, like General Powell, is now destined to spend his remaining days writing apologetic OpEds and appearing on talk shows to make excuses for his failure to do the right thing.
The majority of Americans don’t want to wait until next July to hear General Petraeus tell us again that we are making progress, but he needs more time. By then, a thousand more Americans may die, two hundred billion more dollars will disappear, al Qaeda will grow stronger and the world will be an even more dangerous place. The American people are ready to end this war NOW!
It is time for Congress to end this war and bring our troops home. It doesn’t matter what General Petraeus says, or what President Bush wants. It is time for Congress to start representing the American people. It is time to stand up to the ChickenHawks and say NO! No more time. No more lives. No more war.
