Things need to be done. There are bicycle ministries, garden ministries, child care ministries, elder care ministries and a host of other ministries, all of which need to be established now. Transportation, food, child and elder care are pivotal services, which must be ramped up now, when the crisis is in its infancy. We must strengthen our neighborhoods and get rid of this abomination of "bedroom communities" where nobody knows anybody else and the only thing the house is good for is to house a bed for the over-stressed dwellers within lay their heads--and have nightmares about how to pay the bills, whether to buy food, pay the bills, or sell their soul to the devil to fill up the gas tank.
With gas prices so high that minimum wage labors have to borrow money to put gas in their trucks to get to work, many of our citizens are between a rock and a hard place, and will be in greater stress until our leaders get off their sorry behinds and offer something beside platitudes and empty promises.
We exist on this planet by the grace of a forgiving Creator, yet we continue to foul our own nests, abuse resources and spend environmental capital like drunken sailors. In our self-destructive, willful ignorance, we continue to swallow the poisonous, ignorant ranting of self-serving ‘men of the cloth’ and political leaders as if these people have our best interests at heart.
Bad enough that our self-serving politicians continue to swill at the altar of conspicuous consumption and bad judgment, but when our so-called moral leaders and religious elders aid and abet this abomination in their detestable "don’t worry, be happy" Jim Jones kool aid religion, America has to open her eyes and wake up.
We are committing suicide by denial of reality. Some claim there’s no such thing as global warming, that humanity can’t possibly contribute to climate change because we aren’t powerful enough to do so. To them, I say, get out of your cars and stand on any major street corner on a hot summer day and feel the heat and exhaust roiling out of the exhaust pipes of all of those belching, farting, hissing car engines.
Feel the heat of the cities, the stench of trapped exhaust. See the acid rain poisoned lakes and rivers, look at the damaged trees. Stop and smell the coffee, people!
No body wants to take responsibility for anything, but they all want the Creator of All Things to rescue them from their own arrogance, sloth and greed. In a time, which may well be one of the pivotal epochs in human history, we are sitting on our collective behinds, applauding Nero as he fiddles the nation into destruction.
Don’t worry, be happy. Sit in your easy chairs as the air becomes too toxic to breath and the food supply chain becomes unglued.
For whom does the bell toll? Look in the mirror.
