The Real Danger of Appeasement

John Perry
If Rumsfeld was the least bit honest, he would have already confessed to his crimes and either be on trial or serving time.

DR: "It seems that in some quarters there's more of a focus on dividing our country than acting with unity against the gathering threats."

And in no quarter is that focus more evident than the neoconservative club of corporate whores currently running Washington. Their politics of division kept two presidential elections close enough for them to steal, and they're working on stealing another midterm election to maintain their corrupt majority on Capitol Hill. They are masters of public manipulation, but they couldn't govern their way out of a wet paper bag.

DR: "Those who know the truth need to speak out against these kinds of myths and distortions that are being told about our troops and about our country. America is not what's wrong with the world."

We are speaking out with the truth, loudly and clearly, and the number of listeners and speakers is growing. Mr. Rumsfeld is sadly mistaken if he truly believes he can alter reality with a few thoughtfully (or, as it turns out, not so thoughtfully) crafted words and a national stage. Nobody on the side of truth is denigrating our troops. There can be no greater show of support for these fine Americans than to demand that they not be sent into battle unnecessarily.

Mr. Rumsfeld is ironically correct, however; America is not what's wrong with the world. Nor is any other country. What's wrong with the world is that we have too many people in positions of power and trust that are all too willing to abuse their positions and betray the people they're supposed to be serving for their own selfish benefit. And perhaps nowhere in the world right now is there a better example of this than right here at home.

DR: "The good news is that most Americans, though understandably influenced by what they see and read, have good inner gyroscopes. They have good center of gravity. So, I'm confident that over time they will evaluate and reflect on what is happening in this struggle and come to wise conclusions about it."

Right again, Mr. Rumsfeld. Unfortunately, when these wise conclusions are reached, the news will not be good for you.
