Equal rights a.k.a. equal opportunity is this country's stated goal. You've got to admit, “we've come a long way baby”. The laws are mostly there and need to be “simply” enforced -- let's hope better than border security and regulatory oversight (e.g., current credit crisis) have been.

People believe what they believe because … well … cause that's what they believe. Who are we to tell them they're wrong. Folks in this country believe, with their very soul, that you get to do what you want to do so long as it isn't hurting anybody else.
Making decisions colored by the idea that others are just stupid and need to be protected from themselves can lead to bad decisions.
As odd as it may seem Republicans under George Bush decided that big brother wasn't that bad of an idea if they were going to get to be him.

Patriotism boils down to whether or not, when it comes down to it, you put America first. Why? Because as the benefactor of its many gifts we are obligated to sacrifice for its defense. Thank God that some men and women are willing to actually put their lives up as collateral.
Obama should have slam dunked this one. Surely there was a index card with an answer for this one.
So … while few doubt Obama's patriotism, a better answer would have done wonders.
Now we are left to wonder whether Obama's inability to address the ABC debate questions once and for all is an issue in and of itself.
The problem with experience is that its value can only be seen by those who have it.
