--Imperial Presidency. DEAD WRONG:
DW disregards legal boundaries raising questions about checks and balances, wiretapping, prisoner violations, and "signing statements" that negates parts of bills he just signed to name a few.
Bush is known as a bubble-headed president who ignores the "daily news." Updates are received from staff. An insider said, "No one can tell him things aren't going well, it would be disloyal." Others say he's convinced he's the "decider" making the right faith-based decisions while showing little respect for experts.
The image of DW was one of strength & perseverance as he led the charge to war. Now seen by many as just plain old stubborn with a side of admitting no mistakes. Now "incompetence" comes to mind.
Bush's seamy side has also shown though. Dirty politics, the CIA leak and play-backs catching him lying. Terrible table manners and language at the G8 conference--our leader there on the world stage. He's hardly presidential--his past, hesitant speech, conduct--enough for ridicule on late night TV.
Bush's reactions to American disasters has been dismal. He missed chances for quick and personal responses. He flew to a routine meeting on day 1 after Katrina. His advisors noted that when he flew over New Orleans on day 3 that he had a blank look and seemed to be out of it, but later had a sense of urgency--on day 4.
Bush is obviously a candidate for "worst president ever." Other inept presidents (Harding, Arthur, Buchanan) didn't cause the massive damage, so DW should win handily. It appears that he can live with that. He's reported to be happy. He recently said, "You know, I don't worry that much, frankly I have peace of mind." Perhaps so. He shows little anguish over the death toll unlike other war-time presidents--a toll of his making, the one who dodged a war himself, and he still has a bit of that swagger.
Reason enough for a moniker change? It's such a perfect fit. It might catch on. And maybe it might have impact.
