Maybe what he should also have said is that there is There Are No Words That Excuse attacks on defenseless men, women and children who were killed as they were attending weddings, funerals or just going about their daily lives; innocents who have had their right to life taken away by hellfire missiles; human beings whose lives are every bit as important as those of any American.
President Obama also said: "But understand, the attacks of the last two weeks are not simply an assault on America. They are also an assault on the very ideals upon which the United Nations was founded -- the notion that people can resolve their differences peacefully; that diplomacy can take the place of war; that in an interdependent world, all of us have a stake in working towards greater opportunity and security for our citizens."
Inspiring words but maybe what he should have said is that the continued attacks of these deadly drones are not simply an assault on innocent civilians but they are also an attack on the very principles of morality that civilized societies should follow. He could also have said that governments, specifically the U.S., should be able to resolve their differences peacefully, by diplomacy, rather than the continued use of military force and drones. It's high time to practice what you preach.
There are no words to excuse the fact that Mr. Obama has, by his escalation of the use of these drones, has opened a new, very dangerous era in weaponry and he may someday have to face up to the terrible consequences of what he has done. He has opened a door that may never be closed since more and more nations are in the process of acquiring their own versions of these deadly drones. Let's consider what's going on and project it out for the next ten years and then try to imagine the havoc and misery that will be brought down on innocents across the world, and quite likely in America, as the skies are filled with these killing machines.
There are no words to excuse these unconscionable acts that are against the principles of morality and honor. This is not merely a political matter, it is not a matter of semantics; it is a moral issue of the highest degree. This president must tell the people of America and the world exactly what he meant by his statement about the killing of innocents in relation to accepted principles of morality.
It should be noted that President Obama rarely if ever talks about these deadly drones that are launched by his direct orders, the drones that are making life a living hell for innocent civilians in Pakistan and an increasing number of other nations. Why does he continue to say nothing; why does he continue to remain silent on this great moral issue? Perhaps, it's because "There Are No Words That Excuse the Killing of Innocents".
