Third Parties face blatant political bigotry by a two party system determined to shut us out and shut us up. Yet some self described progressives would like to see third parties go to the back of the political bus, drink from our own water fountain. We will not do that and we will not just shut up and go away either.
Now those of us active in building a strong, viable and active third party movement have plans, we have our own well thought out strategies. The problem is you have never asked us what they are and those groups and media, such as the Nation magazine or Air America have constantly shut out our voices and visions to you.
Mass movements and a rising population demanding real change is critical for us all. As stated at the start of this article that the Democratic Party is where progressive politics goes to die, how can we move forward? It is at this point that those of us who are working and building for third parties are most effective.. You see, we have not fallen for the fear mongering that both political wings of the duopoly practice.
Power gives up nothing without a demand. That has been reality since time began. What is also true is that, as pointed out earlier is that the Democratic Party machine has taken people's very honest anger and channeled it into their machine. Dissipating and dissolving the original anger of the population.
We say, make them more afraid of us then of them. Quite frankly, when progressives "hold their nose and vote for their lesser evil" what happens is that progressives reward them, with your vote for their bad behavior. Reinforcing the bad behavior. Which then cements it. How can any progressive, peace and justice, Impeachment, Single Payer Healthcare activist not look at the past 2 years and not surmise this fact.
Do not support us just because it is the right thing to do. Do not support us just because of the cause of participatory democracy, social justice and equality. Do not support us because without our critical voices of dissent, our nation may just fail.
Petitioning our elected officials, begging for them to do the right thing has failed for the past 20 years. They do not care about your positions and issues.
Support us because, in the final analysis we may be the only leverage you may have left to affect the needed social change that our world needs to survive.
Make them more afraid of you and the power that we all hold together. That has always been our message and strategy.
