He has the fire in his belly but lacks the spine or brains to get the job done. He is running for Vice -President on the Dan Quayle model, a job for which he is uniquely qualified.
Mitt Romney means money and money means power to the candidates. The candidates will all begin the primary season in a big bunch with the front runner changing after each state primary contest. The candidates will run as far and as fast as they can to the political right to generate heat and excitement among the base and to alienate the undecided voters. The Democratic convention is bound to be slow and perfunctory affair this time around so the Republicans will put on a spectacle and then nominate a Republican version of Michael Dukakis either Newt or Mitt. The extremists will feel robbed by the Party establishment and then a scratchy phonograph record will begin to play over the public address system, "There she is, Miss America!" Sarah Palin will ride in on her float with crown and scepter in her hand, Queen Mother of all that is the tea bag nation.
She will support all of the most extreme tea bag notions and maybe she'll even pick Michele Bachmann as her running mate. Imagine that. Imagine the press coverage, two women on a single Presidential ticket! Her candidacy would be designed to divide the Republican Party and to assure that no one, but no one, interferes with Barack Obama's reelection to a second term. And as they watch him on the stage their hands all clenched in fist of rage they will swear a vendetta against the Party establishment they'll claim, pushed a mainstream Republican candidate on them instead of the real Republican (radical) that they wanted.
