What will awaken us? Perhaps Wounded Knee should have taught us, but we have refused its implications. Will we allow Standing Rock to move us out of complacency?
As another example, let's speak to Donald Trump, who for conservatives has reflected the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is our Lord and Savior. In my eyes, he's an expression of the Beast, but that's just my opinion from how I interpret the "Bible".
But what if we realized we are the saviors, as well as manifestations of the beast? (666 is simply the number signifying ego consciousness, it is the represented in the Sun...and is NOT evil....the evilness of it is bunk...see how long you live without the Sun).
What if projecting our neurosis externally is the surrendering of our power and wisdom. Could this be by our Nature, who has made our hands in a way in which we are reminded of who is really in power. As an exercise speaking to my point, point a finger at the screen and say, "Burl, you are an idiot and don't know what you are talking about." Now look at you hand.
Yes, you have one finger pointed at the screen and 3 pointed right back at your chest. Is this an accident of Nature? Or is Nature filled with a humorous wisdom that could give us insights into ourselves? You decide. While we blame others, we have 3 fingers pointed right back on us. Such is the issue of taking responsibility, reclaiming our power. It's horrible to realize you have power. It makes you responsible for the things you have been blaming on others to let yourself off the hook. Do you really wish to be an active part of such scapegoating?
Meanwhile, had Hilary Clinton won the election, we would have been in the same trouble, just less pronounced. She too was and is not the answer! Though I wished for Sanders, I also realized he too was not the answer. I am, you are and so are the editors, writers and readers on Oped. All of us are the answer and we are all responsible for making change.
This is my interpretation of Rob Kall's notion of "Bottom-Up" empowerment.
Do we want freedom? Then bring it forth! As John Lennon sings in the song "Revolution", "well you better free your mind instead." It is we that need to change. When a lot of us change, everything changes. Meanwhile, it has been evidenced by psychology experiments over the past several centuries that our beliefs foster what we get. The fancy name for this is self-fulfilling prophecy. What prophecy are we living out currently? What would a new self-fulfilling prophecy entail for all of us?
Empowerment?
