The Humane Society of the United States said of this plan: "The decision of the BLM advisory board to recommend the destruction of the 45,000 wild horses currently in holding facilities is a complete abdication of responsibility for their care. The agency would not be in this situation but for their long-term mis-management. Alternatives to this proposal have been ignored for over 20 years."
I often try to appeal to the president re animal issues. Sadly, I do not think he is too concerned in this regard. However, I will send this post to him where it will probably never be read by him or even addressed by his mail helpers.
I am glad that Anne Novak, Founder and Exceutive Director of Protect Mustangs was horrified by this news. She started a Care2 petition to demand that the BLM disregard the Advisory Board's recommendation, and instead return the horses and burros to public lands.
Yes, I signed and with my signature a prayer also that justice and kindness will prevail for these 45,000 horses whose care should be in compassionate hands and apparently are not.
