My fellow Americans, now is the time for you and me to come to the aid of our country. Now is the time for all of us to stand up for the America we, and the generations before us worked so hard to create, against all odds, out of desire to promote the public good as well as to promote freedom. We are at a critical juncture in our history, a turning point in this experiment that we call a democracy.
There is a lot of magical realism rhetoric about cutting the budget so that our grandchildren won't be harnessed with it, despite the cold hard economic reality that no magic will work until we end wars and tax the wealthy. But what is worse? What do you want to live with? A narrative that is full of debt no one will collect or a narrative that is full of despair, a loss of hope, a loss of pride, and a wide swath of want coloring the states where the blue, and the red, used to be?
What I don't want for my grandchildren, or for yours, is an America whose best days are gone, replaced by a land where Wall Street pharaohs and political kings have reduced the status, opportunities, and rights of the vast majority of those who work for a living to the level of an endured servant class, lucky to have a job of any kind, despite having an online college degree, a gun, and a big screen tv.
