JB: Nice. Your book has just come out and you've been out promoting it but I understand you've actually just finished another book. What's it about and when will it be out?
CA: Yes, the book cycle is such that I'm often finishing a new story at the same time that my prior book is hitting shelves. It creates a weird interference pattern in my brain--what looks brand new to the world is actually a year or two old to me. Sometimes I have to go back and remind myself what I wrote the last time around. I'm really excited about my fourth book.
It's about the underside of the global economy, about the human rights abuses--including forced labor and slavery--that are hidden within the supply chains of multinational corporations that source the stuff we love to buy (clothes, toys, food, etc.) from developing countries across the world. It's about the workers who are being abused and about a group of lawyers and journalists who risk everything to force a global corporation to change its ways. There's a growing movement within our culture to create a more responsible and sustainable form of capitalism, one based on a bottom line that protects human beings and the environment along with yielding a profit. This conversation is gaining momentum within the business community, among investors and consumers, and in the media. My new story story taps into that.
JB: Well, I for one am excited about this newest book and can't wait to read it. Its subject matter is of great interest to me. Thanks so much for talking with me again, Corban. It's always interesting and thought-provoking.
CA: My pleasure. Thanks for the conversation!
