"There really are no effective national standards to govern voter purges, and the result is an often chaotic, whimsical approach to the maintenance of voter rolls. Americans across the country lack basic protections against erroneous purges."
And, as the Brennan Center exposed last week, because HAVA requires voter identity be tied with the information provided in the massive Social Security database, the big shots pulling the strings plan to simply shut down the SS database three weeks before the election. That dirty trick will stop the registration of millions of new voters dead in its tracks. Election officials won't be able to confirm the data, and the voter won't become registered.
Can't think of a better reason to reject centralized voter databases. HAVA is hellish on a number of grounds.See Myers' research for a fascinating bit of history into the controls surrounding software driven voting systems. Or, if you're not an election geek like we are, just watch the Turdblossom lecture, download the Voter's Guide, and pass those links along to voters.
