"The U.S. spy agency has been arming and training rebels in Syria since 2013 to fight the Assad regime (WSJ, September 30, 2015).
The above statements are in the public domain yet not highlighted by mainstream media. Al-Nusra is described as the terrorist arm of the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
Interestingly, the misinformation campaigns began even before Russia had flown its first jet over Syrian airspace. "Russia didn't even begin its operation against Islamic State" Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov didn't even utter his first words at the UN Security Council, but numerous reports already emerged in the media that civilians are dying as a result of the Russian operation and that it's aimed at democratic forces in the country (Syria)," Maria Zakharova, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman, told media.
Just to nail down the lies, Russia is photographing and video-recording all its strikes with photographic evidence unlike fabricated, unauthentic lies in the mass media.
Meanwhile Russian air sorties are raining hell on terrorists. This rabble of CIA-funded "good terrorists" who do no worse than throat-slitting are caught in a cauldron. They stand no chance as would Islamic State (IS) in coming days against an A-rated military force. Russian bombers are destroying ammo dumps, fuel depots, military hardware, command posts anything that could help IS' ability to wage war. The supply lines are being cut and jihadis are made to hang out to dry. It is bombing these terrorists, letting Quds brigade and Hezbollah mop up afterwards, without having Russian boots on the ground.
Assad's army is fighting a war against these so called "good terrorists." For the moment, these are Assad's enemies; he hasn't moved against IS yet. Russians also are not moving against IS yet. Between Assad's troops and IS lies a huge are held by these "moderate" terrorists (see map). Moscow wants the West and its regional allies to rein in its proxies. It wants to put pressure on Syria's rivals--Turkey and Saudi Arabia--and bring them to the negotiating table.
Meanwhile Western powers have been left flat-footed by Russia. They still have to come up with a strategy. Its staggering for the Western public to be asking: "how come we have no answer sto such developments in a region where we have been operating for four years now? Did they ever have a strategy? Were they ever serious?
President Barack Obama's words at the UN were revealing. He said, "Nowhere our commitment to international order has been more tested than in Syria. The United States is prepared to work with any nation, including Russia and Iran, to resolve the conflict." There couldn't be a bigger admission of the West's failed Middle East policy.
A diplomatic solution, somewhere in future, could still include Assad's departure. Russia perhaps wouldn't mind that. But terrorists wouldn't be allowed to operate in a political vacuum--it's message has been clear. The world can heave a sigh of relief.
