'After 9/11, Congress people were afraid they would be seen as "unpatriotic" if they took a stand against beginning a war their commons sense told them was ill-advised. A war that Donald Rumsfeld said would last "Three days, three weeks, I doubt three months," and which Paul Wolfowitz said would cost $50 billion dollars, most of which would be paid for by Iraqi oil. When France did not support our invasion of Iraq they took the idiotic action of renaming the French fries served in their cafeteria as "freedom fries." Later, after passions had cooled and everyone knew the war had been an expensive mistake the Bush administration had lied us into for profits for Halliburton, those people had to try to explain their lack of judgment in supporting that invasion. They had to try to explain why they had opted to do what was popular rather than what was right -- many of them against their better judgment.
'Today's spineless congressional Republicans are making the same mistake Democrats made in 2002 when they supported the invasion of Iraq. Not standing for what is right. Republicans MIGHT take action against Trump if his poll numbers dip low enough, but they are terrified of the political consequences of being anything less than "slobberingly servile" to this vicious nincompoop!! Jason Villaba, a Republican member of the Texas legislature, REFUSED to support Trump -- a man he saw as dishonest and immoral -- for president in 2016. He lost his seat because of it, but he did not sell his soul to stay in power and is calling for Trump's impeachment. When the history of this ugly time is written, he will be one of the few remembered as being on the RIGHT side of history.
'You, Senator Grassley, a man I used to respect, and your fellow Republican Congress people who have forsaken any principles you ever possessed -- who allow your president to act in such a way for the sake of unnecessary, budget-destroying tax cuts for the rich and the chance to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will vote in favor of corporate interests and to take the country back to a time when women had no right to control their own bodies, against the wishes of the majority of the American people -- you do not deserve the respect of your constituents. Those of you who are too spineless to confront this destructive, imbecilic, incompetent, narcissistic, pathological liar -- this heartless man who kidnapped babies from their mothers and who cares nothing about the well-being of anyone but himself, will be remembered as "Quislings." If you don't know what that word means, look it up!!
'IF you hypocritical, spineless, enabling Republicans -- a party that under Trump has become a party of corruption and cruelty -- do NOT lose to Democrats this November, either the Russians will have determined the outcome of our elections again OR we, as a country -- a country that, under Trump initiated the policy of kidnapping babies from their parents -- we, as a people like Trump as a president will have proven that we do not stand for anything either, and our country will no longer deserve the title "leader of the free world." We will ALL have proven ourselves to be what Hillary Clinton said that the neo-nazis, white supremacists and other racist half of the voters who publicly backed Trump were -- a "Basket of Deplorables!!"'
