Bernard Madoff is serving 150 years jail time for engaging in a multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme that claimed many celebrity victims.

Bernanke was quoted as saying, "But it would have been my preference to have more investigations of individual action, since obviously everything that went wrong or was illegal was done by some individuals, not by an abstract firm." This is, of course, a truncated rendition of companies whose quest for profitability led to actions that were illegal and/or that harmed the users of their products. What is frightening is the billions of dollars these companies control, which enables them to buy politicians to carry out their bidding: on the environment, get rid of the EPA; on global warming, deny the scientific evidence. So in the marketplace: Caveat Emptor.
