Politics, Power, and Punishment

I stated that the Danish documentary was merely the instigator, because it is now gradually dawning to the world that the real reason for all this sudden harshness of the Bangladeshi government toward Yunus most probably lies in the fact that he is perceived as a potential threat. A few years ago, Yunus expressed interest in a political career, and even started a political party at the time. However, he changed his mind and rescinded his efforts in that regard since. But that was not enough for the current leaders. The seed of fear was planted in their political minds, and they suddenly realized how immense this man's potential would be if he would ever really decide to run for president. With millions of formerly poor people as his supporters, his victory would have the magnitude of a tsunami in political Bangladesh, eradicating all the corruptive practices that have kept the country in its stranglehold during the past decades.

As a result, the allegations presented in the Danish documentary were eagerly embraced as a heaven-sent motive to discredit Bangladesh's most honorable citizen ever. What a crying shame. One wonders how it can be possible that human beings allow themselves to become so blinded by their own selfish agenda that they dishonor the one person they should be proud of, and disrespect the wellbeing of an entire nation, or in the case of Yunus, the entire world!

The World is Watching!

It remains to be seen what the end of this story will be. We may very well witness an ending that resembles the stories of Mandela, MLK, and Gandhi:   urging a massive awakening of the masses in that country, and ending with Muhammad Yunus as the Bangladesh's president.
