Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, MA - Entergy Nuclear Operations Pilgrim, same model as Fukushima, is ranked by the NRC in category 4, making it the worst performing nuclear reactor in the United States (along with Arkansas Nuclear One, also Entergy owned.) The next step is federally mandated shut down by the NRC. Three GE scientists working on Fukushima resigned in 1976, calling the design of that model faulty.

Arkansas Nuclear One, AR - Entergy Operations, Inc. "According to the Federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission this plant is in the column four category. To give you an idea of the severity of that ranking, column five is the worst and at that level a plant can not operate."

Columbia Generating Station, WA State - Energy Northwest "It is time to shut down the Northwest's Fukushima-style reactor on the banks Columbia River"". "*The reactor is poorly designed, vulnerable to catastrophic radiation releases. It is a GE Mark II Boiling Water Reactor similar to the four Fukushima Dai-ichi plants that experienced catastrophic accidents in Japan." It has an elevated spent fuel pool, inadequately reinforced, identical to one which nearly collapsed at Dai-ichi #4, and still threatens Japan and the North Pacific with another massive release of radioactive material. On 4/26/2016, a story about a second anonymous letter that was sent to Energy Northwest was published in the Tri-City Herald. "The letter said that as of December, the plant ranked 88 out of 99 plants. Radiation exposure was the third worst among boiling water reactors and equipment reliability put it at 97 out of 99 plants. "

Diablo Canyon Power Plant, CA - Pacific Gas & Electric Co. Senator Barbara Boxer "On the continued operation of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant operation despite a senior NRC inspector's recommendation that it be shut down until seismic upgrades can be made: 'It's not in dispute that PG&E is not in compliance with their license....Why didn't you listen to your own inspector?'"Spent fuel rods -- classified as high-level nuclear waste -- will be stored on site until they're picked up by the Department of Energy."Some Solutions For Our Future President Here are the solutions I offered in papers I wrote and published to both Bernie and Hillary. There are links to both papers at the end of this submission.

Fill the vacant commissioner seat on the NRC with a no-nuclear-power activist If the immoral law of the land [pre-emption] that says only the NRC has the authority to close npp's holds, our President surely has the moral authority to call on the NRC to close all npp's now and to appoint people against nuclear power to the NRC. As the leader of the USA, in charge of the public health and public safety of all the people, animals, butterflies, birds, environment and planet Earth herself, that is part of the president's job description. "The NRC is headed by five Commissioners appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate for five-year terms. One of them is designated by the President to be the Chairman [sic] and official spokesperson of the Commission." As of this writing there is one vacancy. When the terms of the current commissioners expire, appoint at least two more people against nuclear power to the commission. Or disband the current NRC and create a new agency that is not a lap dog for the nuclear power industry, but an agency of justice for We the People.

On 4/15/2016, the NRC announced that "The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will cut its annual budget by $49 million and eliminate 185 full-time positions over the next two years, according to a blog published by the agency Friday." This means that all the decommissionings will be more dangerous than ever, as will the operating of the plants.

Two new memes A climate crisis meme is to "leave fossil fuels in the ground" and have all clean, green, renewables. We need a similar meme for the nuclear power crisis: "close all nuclear power plants now" and have all clean green renewables. Nuclear power is not clean green or renewable. Another climate crisis meme is "no coal oil gas." We must change that now to "no coal oil nuclear gas. No More King Cong."

Conservation Remember the days when recycling was just starting up? We must do something very similar and very intense now about conservation. We must.

Become an organic vegan Lowest carbon footprint on our planet, helps conservation.

Call for Divestment From All Nuclear Power Plants We must do this starting now also. We must.

Germany Is Replacing Both Nuclear Power and Fossil Fuels and So Can We

Germany is leading the world in replacing both nuclear and fossil fuels and moving to clean, green, renewables. "The German revolution has come from the grass roots: Individual citizens and energy genossenschaften--local citizens associations--have made half the investment in renewables".'There's a certain rebelliousness that's a result of the Second World War,' a 50-something man named Josef Pesch told me. 'You don't blindly accept authority".' The state government had insisted that the reactor had to be built or the lights would go out in Freiburg. But beginning in 1975, local farmers and students occupied the site. In protests that lasted nearly a decade, they forced the government to abandon its plans. It was the first time a nuclear reactor had been stopped in Germany. The lights didn't go out, and Freiburg became a solar city. Its branch of the Fraunhofer Institute is a world leader in solar research. Its Solar Settlement, designed by local architect Rolf Disch, who'd been active in the Wyhl protests, includes 50 houses that all produce more energy than they consume. 'Wyhl was the starting point,' Seifried said. In 1980 an institute that Seifried co-founded published a study called Energiewende--giving a name to a movement that hadn't even been born yet." We can do the same, if we want to. And we must not, as Germany is doing, "recycle" the radioactive waste in any way for any reason.

Full speed ahead on solar and wind.

I have written extensively about Bernie's and Hillary's specific nuclear power plans on 5/13/2016. Each is specific to the plan of the candidate. Some sections are the same in both; they have the same name.
