An up and up governor would honor the request for extradition from another state. Under Florida law, the governor just needs to see that the extradition request is in order. And this is more pro forma.
However, we are talking Ron DeSantis here. And it is Florida. And Florida is run by Republicans. And some of those Republicans will not want to help extradite the orange ape to NYC.
Whether or not DeSantis wants to keep Trump in Florida is another matter. A smart politician who wants to damage a rival would extradite Trump to NYC in a nanosecond. But this is Ron DeSantis. He might feel pressure to protect his Orangeness by taking his time to "review" the extradition request. And he can take up to 60 days to do this.
In the end, according to lawyers, DeSantis cannot stop Trump's extradition. State law forbids him from stopping the request. But he could slow walk it. Supposedly, DeSantis has to eventually sign the request in the end.
Now, back to Trump and his stupidity. If Trump goes this route, he could challenge the extraditon in court. And if Trump got a friendly judge, maybe he/she determines the request is invalid. Guess what happens next? Prosecutors get to appeal that decision, but in the meantime, prosecutors will request that Trump stay IN JAIL FOR DAYS!
Oops.
But wait. There is a second way to issue an extradition request. Prosecutors from NYC could request that the local sheriff go in and take Trump into custody. The prosecutors fly down and make their request for extradition before a judge. And unless this is in front of Judge Cannon, Trump will be on his way to being processed in NYC.
The smart move is to fly up to NYC and turn himself in. But this is Trump. And I expect him to have a sh*t fit if indicted.
