According to the Associated Press, over 120 school districts across the country are now holding classes on just four days a week due to budget shortfalls. States are being forced to reduce staffing for public services and Colorado Springs, Colorado has decided that they would save money by turning off 1/3rd of their streetlights. Police, teachers and other public employees are being laid off by the boatload.
Most of the money originally earmarked for supporting public amenities, such as building hospitals, schools, parks, roads and bridges and supporting the day-to-day operation of public services like police and fire departments have simply vanished as the taxes collected have been whittled away by Republican sponsored tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, and the reduction of taxpayers overall due to unemployment. We have become a failed state. The government no longer serves it's citizens and they refuse to take on the responsibilities of governance.
We have come to the point where Crony-Capitalism has turned into a Kleptocracy, the rule by thieves.
