New Poll Results Released on Monday
Bernie continues to close in on Clinton's lead in Iowa. This Bloomberg/Selzer poll shows Hillary at 48% and Bernie at 39%. Interesting comment: "Bernie Sanders has proven to be a worthy adversary," J. Ann Selzer, founder of the firm that conducted the poll, told Bloomberg. "He's attracting people who, as a coalition, can be a force to be reckoned with, if he can turn them out."
Nailing Down IowaSaturday, December 11th-- A Des Moines Register report: In Anamoosa, Sanders, back in Iowa for the first time in nearly a month, listened more than he talked at a packed forum on racial justice and prison reform. "I have a long speech but I'm not going to give it," he said.
He served largely as emcee and moderator for a panel discussion that featured a former Ohio state senator, Nina Turner, and two men who had served time in prison and now counsel other ex-convicts. They focused in particular on ways corrections systems set up parolees to fail, such as releasing them back into their former communities with no money, skills or job prospects.
"What this campaign is about is not sound bites. It is attempting to address some of the most important issues facing our country. It is an attempt to force discussion on issues that are often swept under the rug," Sanders said.
Then on to Clinton, Dubuque, and Waterloo.
Sunday, December 12th -- Bernie spoke to 115 people at the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Waterloo where the crowd was "warm and receptive, offering affirmations and brief applause."
He headed out to his Waterloo campaign office to talk with about 75 volunteers.
In the afternoon, he participated in a round-table discussion with 19 veterans in a back room at Cornell College's gym in Mt. Vernon. He "pledged that, if elected president, he would ensure all military veterans would receive the mental and physical care they need."
