The Rafael Cruz Factor
Relatives of the candidates often take part in the entertainment.
If Ben Carson is entertaining the Christian Right, Ted Cruz' father is dazzling them. A self-made traveling "pastor" or "preacher" (the labels change sometimes), and born-again (of course), Cruz has made controversial statements and the Cruz campaign repeatedly has to make the statement: "Pastor Rafael Cruz does not speak for Ted Cruz." This is rather difficult to believe, seeing that Rafael is considered a surrogate for his son, holding court (meeting) with influential Christian Right leaders.
His credentials are sketchy to say the least, at times seeming to be a Reconstructionist with prosperity gospel tendencies associated with Benny Hinn. He certainly entertains publicity.

So, in 2016, we'll see an incredible amount of spectacle. Too bad the American public isn't more willing to view anything else.
