4) False statement - Aiken staff falsely claimed in a City Council Work Session that half of water main breaks are caused by contractor digging.

a) Fact - One of 12 reported breaks were reported as contractor caused, where Aiken refused to provided any additional FOIA requested information that could have proved them wrong (Figure 8).

b) Fact - That is, 0.83 percent of water main breaks, rather than 50 percent of breaks, were caused by water hammers.

c) Fact - I recently observed contractor hand digging instead of machinery digging, e.g., backhoes. where contractor breaks can be reduced accordingly.

5) False statement - Aiken staff falsely claimed in a City Council Work Session that tree rots break water mains.

a) Tree roots damage thinner wall, lower pressure pipes.

b) Higher pressure, thicker wall water mains are not damaged by tree roots, but tree roots can grow into water hammer induced water main cracks.

6) False statement - Aiken staff falsely claimed after a City Council Work Session that water hammer does not break plastic water mains.

a) Fact Many people believe this fallacy.

b) I published photos of plastic PVC water mans that were broken by water hammers.

c) I requested a broken PVC water main from Aiken for free failure analysis using scanning electron microscopy. The Aiken Mayor refused.
