Expert says Trump's loyalty to polluters is killing people - and he's using 'fake science' to cover it up

The Trump administration has instructed the EPA to use a new method for projecting the future health risks of air pollution, which would significantly reduce last year’s estimate that up to 1,400 additional premature deaths will occur every year due to a proposed new rule on coal plant emissions, according to The New York Times. The plan is controversial, in part, because experts claim it has not been peer-reviewed and is not scientifically sound, breaking precedent in terms of how the EPA attempts to handle environmental regulations. “This is a logical next step in the effort by Trump and the polluting interests that dictate his environmental policies to dismantle the environmental protections of the past half century put in place by past both Republican and Democratic presidents,” said Michael E. Mann, a distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Penn State University

Calling CO2 a pollutant was one of the most unscientific things that a supposedly science-based organization ever did. It's high time to correct that, but a climate alarmist like "distinguished" Mann would object, of course.

That's a pretty clueless statement.

Anything that corrupts the living environment, either by introducing it, or increasing what's already present, IS considered pollution. Doesn't matter how pleasant or natural the substance is.

I love chocolate like nobody else, but I wouldn't want to have my lungs process it when I breathe.

You seem to accuse people of alarmism all the time, yet always fail to include a rational counter argument. Not exactly scientific of you.

I totally agree, but couldn't find a way to put it as politely as you have! Furthermore, they are not saying CO2 is a pollutant but that it is a factor in the melting ice and even the Ozone level. But there is not point in arguing with the likes of this particular commenter. In the meantime, I will accept the counsel of this particular atmospheric scientist who has won significant awards for his incisive research.

(I have my moments. :)

Alas, if only we were arguing with just one person. We've got a lot of people who want to believe so badly that climate change is a farce, that they take to calling those who point it out as "nutjobs", etc.

And there are many who don't comprehend what "pollution" really is. They think it only involves "dirty" things or "garbage", when in fact, pollution is anything that upsets the balance of nature in a harmful manner. Too much carbon, or helium, or methane, or water, or even chocolate, makes survival much more difficult, as does having too little of important elements.

Then there are those who are belligerent corporate hacks, either through ideological fervor or through payments made to them to comment the same old same old shtick over and over. The latter are quite frequent in all realms of consumer protection, whenever there might be a potential loss of profit for someone like Monsanto, Dow, Bayer, Ajinomoto, Coca Cola, et. al.

Yeah, those unquestionably make up the very core of the trouble, but we're not supposed to talk about them. ;)

Search "many reasons to prove michael mann wrong." Or listen more to Guy McPherson, whom Mann has dissed then used Guy's conclusions. Mann gives me headaches and evidence leads me to Guy--even though I wish the latter were not so.

The ideological fervor is apparent in radical activists and their followers. It's a mistake and completely unfair to blame an industry, a company, a group, or an individual for defending against vicious misinformation.

Read the data. Yes, climate changes -- slowly. But we're living in a time when political forces -- and that includes the radical environmental groups -- have ignored scientific data in favour of alarming projections. And in the past several years they've amped up the rhetoric by claiming every extreme weather event is due to climate change. Doesn't it demand credulity to have both heat waves and near-record cold spells blamed on global warming?

The trace "greenhouse gases" aren't upsetting the balance of nature, but radical actions could. California's big on wind power and now discovering the toll those turbines take on raptors.

I realize this is probably pointless to say here, but Mann is well-known as a self-promoter and is discredited by scientists who can't respect his use of "Mike's nature trick" in concocting his "hockey stick" graph.

Carbon dioxide is only a trace gas in the atmosphere, but it's critical to life. Plants do better with more, which is why greenhouse operators often add it. It most certainly does not corrupt the living environment.
