When the right to protest crosses over into active sedition

Follow Me on Twitter     Message John Lorenz
Sedition "noun 1. incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government.

2. any action, esp. in speech or writing, promoting such discontent or rebellion.

3. Archaic. rebellious disorder.

What is the right wing in America doing right now but attempting to undermine the legitimate functioning of the US government legally presided over by President Obama?

Why is law enforcement not taking action to prevent or calm down the passions that are becoming increasingly openly unruly ? For example, when birthers yell "kill him at political rallies and when guns are allowed at meetings where public officials are, and when inflammatory preachings of hate and resistance to government are calling the President a traitor in so many words and inflammatoryspeech defaming him andquestioning his right to be President at all and encouraging people to buy up ammunition in a hurry, which they are doing as we speak....is this not a threat to civil liberties in evidence?

Now the latest hysteria on the right suggests, for example, that President Obama may be plotting to use a government sponsored pandemic as a vehicle to declare martial law. This kind of stuff is designed to both inspire fear and anger among the base of the GOP, even though it is at this point mostly a viral rumor spread on the Internet. It is another instance of fomentingfear and paranoia leading to possible rebellious acts byright wingers.

There is NO evidence for it being truthful at all,but many on right wing Internet sites and hate radio are whipping it up andspreading it. See for example :

http://www.uaff.info/obama_to_declare_martial_law.htm

There is simply NOpossible reason for people to be acting

in this manner; proceeding as ifthey were planning to take up arms against the US government if its officialsaredeemed by them to be politically out of line. We are supposed to live in a democracy where people are required to coexist in peace and agree to disagree if necessary.

Why then is there no action being taken to make sure this growing unrest stays withinproper bounds and keeps within constitutional limits? Why is there no counterveiling brake put to these increased hate speech attacks that egg people on to get worked up and threaten oursafety and legitimate functioning of our elected public officials? Where is the old FCC Fairness Doctrine? Now is when we need it to keep the public newsmedia from providing an unfair megaphone to just one side of the political spectrum.

John Adams was forced to have the "Alien and Sedition Acts" passed when discontent threatened to impede and/or lead to violent overthrow of the duly constituted United States Federal Government.

Where arethe FBI or police or Homeland security?

Right now I am unarmed, However, the current violently hatefulrhetoric coming from the right scares me, and in the absence of any law enforcement countermeasures to prevent legitimate dissent andfree speech from spilling over into sedition, I andmany other progressives arebecoming very afraid for our own safety.

Should I go out and buy a firearm too, to protect myself from the people who are breathing fire against our government and our President? Am I to seek means to protect myself from riled up extremist people who disagree with political opposition by spreading lies, slander and inflammatory rumors? Should I trust the right to behave responsibly and keep within their bounds of loyal opposition when dealing withour legitimately elected President? Is not inciting public fear and rebellion against those who do not please the right seditious?

Will troops be brought home from Afghanistan to protect us from appears to be the stirrings and beginnings of home grown anti-government terrorism? Is Afghanistan more important than defending ournational territory from the invasion of the Mexican drug Cartel?

Why is there such lax legal responsetothese veiled threats to our public officials and why the refusal to compelprotestors to wait their turn to speak andbe orderly at public meetings? And why is there no accountability required fordirect incitement to anger via lies thatwhip up the GOP base? Why is it OK to foster radical discontent, and preach blindpartisanship at the expense of others

usingmessagescalling in a veiled way for readiness to rebel? Check broadcasts of Limbaugh, Savage an countless others who rev up assertions that President Obama is a threat to national security and Democracy and that his economic views represent a threat to our financial and social order.

If the US government doesn't exercise its legitimate authority to moderate and restrain extremism leading tounrest, then chaos may lead to civil war and tyranny may be the direct result. I'm not talking about suppression of dissent or curtailment of constitutional rights. But I am talking about things being done civilly and without threat to others.President Obama needs to stop being afraid of the right

and insist that they remain peaceful and lawful whether they agree with his policies or not. When George W. Bush was president, the left had to be docile and accept policies of HIS that we didn't like. The right should not be allowed to hide their sedition behind the facade of them exercising their constitutional right to bear arms and dissent. Rights are not blanket and universal if they undermine the legitimate functioning of government.

No sedition was tolerated when the Republicans held the highest offices in the land and the same rules ought now apply when the other party now holds those positions as a result of legitmate and verified elections that put the Democratic Party in charge of those offices.

Allowingconstitutional freedoms does not include standing by and letting sedition happen against the legitimate functioning of US government officials.Public law and order and domestic tranquility must be defended and maintained. Peoples' rights are limited to constitutional boundaries that imply the safety and good working order of our legimately elected democracy...
