BATMAN AND HIS MINIONS/CHICAGO, NY! I originally started this narrative as a comment to Ray Louis' article, Spoiler Alert! The Dark Knight is an Unmasked Bush Apologist, but I hate to make comments as long or longer than the articles upon which I comment so this is the outgrowth of my oft broken comment rule. So to appreciate this please check our Ray Louis witty satire, Article HERE ON OEN at the link above. Off and On, I have had a few similar thoughts about every superhero, where are they politically? The reality is that Batman and his parents, in this latest series, are portrayed as assassinated by Conservative Corporatist interests because of their Liberal stance on crime and criminalsand society in general. I noticed no environmentalist in the film Batman Returns, but did note the insane Conservatism of the Clan of Oriental/Euro- fascists, which the anti-heroes represented. As for 24 after one show, I refused to watch it again. It is fascism in action. Truth is that Batman is the least of our worries and the makers of violent video games may rank highly amongst the most of our worries. Liberalism is descended from Jesus, the true first human anti-Conservative. Most of the biblical prophets were men with feet in two camps, mostly Conservative, but tinged with Liberalism. Jesus was the first and truest Liberal fighting my super conservative Roman ancestors and the arch-conservative Herodian Kings and Priests, and this is precisely why Conservatism adopted him in an effort to twist his life to meet the expectations of their ignorant, twisted-brained southern illiterates, minds forked up by incest and preteen sex parties with animals and driven by Demoniac Avarists. Now Jesus has become a fascist, thanks to the likes of the late, not so great Jerry Fallwell. See my prediction of his death two days before he died over the Jesus as corporatist superman and Bush as a faux-prophet, (spell that Profit) blasphemy- last paragraph page 2.
I have yet to see the latest Batman film so I cannot comment on it, however, in Batman Returns and his various incarnations since his creation, he has always been a man with one foot in each camp, a bit challenged by the literacy of his creators and their descendants. Now, with some of them being corporatists and some being Extreme Liberals, he is left still dangling in the wind. His best incarnation was that of the spoof Batman of the 1960's, which was more fun than most TV shows back then and now. Ages ago, as a fledgling Professor Of Popular Culture while still attending graduate school I taught a Pop Cultural Anthropology course at a university in Illinois. It was a History of Comic Superheroes and their effects on Americans. It was more than fun, it was enlightening. One of the most powerful effects we discovered was that in WW I soldiers often froze at their posts in fear of killing another human being, unable to pull the trigger as they were being rushed. Americans less so than others, however, having recently emerged from the Wild West and everyday shoot-outs. One of the effects of comic books and the film industry on Americans was that the heroes of both genres, whose adventures were absorbed in America in greater volume than in other nations, resulted in men unafraid to pull the trigger or to kill. There were far fewer incidents of freezing at the trigger. This is both a good and bad thing. At any rate in the above instance, comic superheroes were credited with helping overcome the fear of fighting. As I scan from time to time the letters to editors of the sports pages and the call-ins to radio shows in Chicago, I find many are made by students and what I find is a mimicking of their parental points of view which are invariably racist and fascistic. I find it very prominent in the sports programs not only of the Tribune Company, which Disk Jocks are invariably politically illiterate, and extremely far to the right, but also so those who moderate most of the sports shows. THAT, to me is very disturbing.
Wheaton, Naperville, Oak Brook, the North Shore and other wealthy areas loaded with kids, Little Fascists in the making, reflecting the racism and fascism of their parent/s. In fact, here in Chicago, from which the most Liberal seeming politicians have arisen, there is an undercover, agent at work. The reality was that the Mafia here actually represented working class Liberalism and the government of Chicago, represented the far Conservative suppressors/oppressors, leaning only onto Liberal Social programs because most of the voters were Catholic Liberal lower, middle and upper middle class people, Liberal Jews, and all peppered here and there by semi-Liberal racists scattered among the union crowd, who were mostly Liberal about everything else, except war. The Mayor of Chicago, and many of his top supporters at the state House, are and always have been, in my opinion minions of fascism and without even knowing it themselves. What is most interesting is that the priesthood in Chicago is covered with an upper level of ultraconservatives, and an underlying mass of parish Liberals except in the far-flung, Republican suburbs. Such is a twisted, mind-bending mixture of philosophies, which makes up this urban picture and Batman is but a reflection of the latest site for Gotham City, Downtown Chicago. Batman is Chicago and NY and they is he.
