Stephanie Lynne's Diary.

The 'Mind, Body & Soul' Experience in Olympia last October was a holistic occasion for the alternative healing community. The event was an opportunity for the spiritual therapy community to join in unison and celebrate ancient wisdoms, esoteric healing practices and complementary contemporary therapies alike.

The weekend exhibition encompassed complementary health, spiritual awareness and personal development, officially speaking.  The most pervasive aspect of the show when navigating past the entrance was the multiple stalls; the stalls formed the equivalent of a spiritual marketplace, orientated on the principles of exhibition and commerce.  Yes, the ethos was commercial, with a slight sense of disparity between each private stall holder.  Those exhibiting and representing their disciplines and trades had travelled from throughout the UK and were settled in personal havens, separated by individual agendas and skills. On sorting and filing my spoils I took home info on everything from talking therapy workshops, info on the British Complementary Medicine Association and Reiki therapy testimonials to intuitive art.  The occasion was reminiscent of a Sunday in heyday Camden Town Market for sure!

Dr JP Opermann's psychodynamic workshop on dream interpretation was definitely an evocative personal highlight.

Summary- Holistic, mystic & commerce.

  'Mind, Body & Soul' 2014?

The 'Mind, Body & Soul' festival is already booking up for next October.  I have a second sense I might just be visiting once more- because the occasion is rather addictive.  I would also note that the appeal of this genre of event is also similar to the principles of 'the barnum effect'- with everyone finding something personally gratifying & meaningful in what is being offered! (i.e.) 'Mind, Body & Soul' provides a honed, holistic experience promising something to everyone in the domain of alternatives.  I'm grateful for Spirit & Destiny mag, for previewing the event.  Maybe consider a little unifying spirit in 2014? - The event nevertheless, as billed encompasses   mystery, natural science and alluring ancient wisdoms in form of entertainment that is not always a part of the terra firms of our everyday mundane lives.  We need to rekindle elements of magic and holism- they are not always integral elements of our modern day media either. Overall, a positive initiative!
