I have been running across various news articles reporting that the Bush administration is quietly planning to nearly double the number of combat troops in Iraq by the end of the year. Pentagon deployment orders indicate that sending in more combat troops will overlap those with extended tours of duty already there. This tactic would increase the number of combat soldiers from 52,500 this past January to 98,000 by this December.
The insurgents have an unlimited supply of volunteers thanks to our long presence in Iraq. So, if we double our troops, they can easily double or triple theirs. Then, we would have Bush’s oft-mentioned blood bath with American blood in the mix. And, how much longer will it take for Iraq War debt to throw America into a depression?
