I read Bill Kristol only to see where his -- stupidity? dishonesty? I can't tell which -- takes him this time. And he rarely fails in his ability to reach new lows, such as today, when he attempts to enlist George Orwell for the right-wing Republican cause.
While the "morally insensitve and aesthetically disgusting" analogy certainly applies, to imply that Republicans have "a certain grip on reality" -- that's rich, even by Kristol's standards. Almost as rich as his statements on Fox News Sunday yesterday that, with estimates of up to a million dead and undisputed estimates of four million displaced, we are seeing "success" in Iraq. At least the man's thinking is unburdened by shame.
And Mukasey -- respected? Please! I call him Mugreasy.
You would think one Weekly Standard neocon would be enough for the Times op-ed page. One thing's for sure -- if "shocking the conscience" is the standard which defines torture, reading Bill Kristol qualifies.
