A Point of No Return

Today things are so chaotic that I have no sense of specifically where we are going. What I do have is fear that we are all going at light speed. There is a point, not far away, or already here, when it will be irreversible. When there is a conservative majority or near majority there will be no overturning Citizens United; gerrymandering is already planned and when the election process is fully under corporate/Republican control there will be no way back. The citizens will have no control of elections or anything else relating to our personal future. Good intentions and patriotism will be of little benefit. Personal economic survival will relate to obedience and lack of dissent. Democracy will be replaced with an authoritarian, theocratic plutocracy or corporatocracy.
Republicans don't care whether legislation is good for the Country or not. All they want is power to force through their agenda of bizarre ideas, all undemocratic. While I consider myself a strong Democrat, I don't see much of the ideals for what the party stands for being applied by present party actions. Desire for reelection and gathering corporate donations is a major driving force. There are a few wonderful individual exceptions, but not enough to lead the party. What I see is cowardly chaos with personal security the main goal. The Bluedogs are really conservative Republicans wearing the coat of Democrats for political reasons. This seriously weakens the Democrats and all too many are beholden to corporate money needs over citizen needs. I also find it tragic that our Democratic political organizations campaign AGAINST Democrats in the primary and is why I no longer donate to the DNC, the DSCC and the DCCC. I donate to individual candidates and organizations unaffiliated with the Party. I only hope they get the message from my actions, my comments when called for donations and my writings. That money should be used to combat Republicans in the general election, instead this money is used to guarantee the position of incumbents. I still am disgusted here (Arkansas) with the Lincoln vs Holder Primary. Holder is a real Democrat with good ideals, Lincoln is a corporate stooge, a DINO. Holder was the best bet for the General election but Democrats used Bill Clinton and donated money to battle against Holder. Now we have a seat that will surely go Republican (probably won't see much change from Lincoln). Holder had a better chance. We still have other DINOs, Landrieu, Nelson, Baucus and many more that the Democrats will defend against real Democrats in some future primary.
I am afraid that I see no way out! If I were younger I would go to Europe but they now have similar problems with a fascist shift as though there was no lesson to be learned from WWII. You would think Israel of all places would make sure that authoritarian, dictatorial, theocratic methods would never be considered, but look at them embracing these actions as if their collective memory of WWII was erased. Theocracy, oaths of obedience to Israel,
and genocide against a minority population. Many South American countries shun Democracy. Venezuela likes communism and a dictatorship. While this rule seems to work now, dictatorship rarely makes people happy for long and for some reason communism doesn't seem to work under democracy. Pure capitalism, like communism, ultimately requires authoritarian rule as elements of society fall by the wayside and try to get their due. We are long overdue for this here. Why we are so apathetic and vote against our own best interests is not clear to me.
America functioned pretty well under a form of democratic socialism, but now the word, "socialism" makes the informationally challenged go insane. Today all successful countries live under some form of this. This form of government that has worked so well in America is now under attack by those who hate the word, "socialism" even while not understanding it and may win with help from the Supreme Court, corporations and a gullible under informed public so ripe for subjugation.
I was educated in public school and went to state universities, I have Medicare which works well and have a needed Social Security check which I paid into. My home is protected by a local government fire department and police department. My daughter is a state trooper. I was in the Navy and worked at a VA hospital. I bought my water, garbage collection and electricity from North Little Rock. I flew with an FAA license and followed FAA rules. My medical license is issued by the state of Arkansas and I have to follow their rules. I drive on highways built by local and Federal governments. I don't want to belabor the point but I could keep this going for hours. We all, even the anti socialists, would grieve if we had to give up the collective efforts of government (socialism). It is this mix of socialism and capitalism under democratic control that made America great and is what we may soon lose!

Seventy four old retired physician, Veteran of the US Navy in the Vietnam era, markedly opposed to the futility, waste and brutality of our wars for the riches of the elite. I want America back as futile as that aspiration is.
